    @ Frenchy

    Please report to LB.

It used to be the case they took this seriously and checked CCTV and talked to drivers.

They also reported back to complainant with an outline of what action they had taken - including ‘extra training’.

Then they went ‘we won’t tell you what action we have taken’.

    Now?

Would help if you knew time and bus (route number at least).

You imply this ‘keeps happening’ so mention that.

Plus highlight importance/significance of ‘around tram tracks’.

(Above applies to anyone of course!)

Other bus companies used to be worse, and probably still are, but don’t have as many buses/drivers in Ed.

Not LB on this occasion, and will definitely be reporting to the company.

    Ah!

Good - and probably more vital to report.

Whatever good training Lothian Buses did in the past re cycles is long gone IMO. I had one a couple of weeks ago who had rolled into the George IV Bridge ASL (as they nearly all do now). The driver appeared to be using a handheld device as I passed the driver window (no head cam attached to double-check/report, unfortunately).

I stopped in what remained of the ASL, following cyclists were finding it difficult to pass between my rear wheel and the bus, so I moved forward and gave the driver my best Paddington hard stare. He opened his window and started absolutely screaming at me. I can’t imagine what his passengers were thinking.

Quite frankly, a person who absolutely should not be in charge of 14+ tonnes of bus. Professional drivers? Don’t make me laugh.

@Frenchy: Not Rabbies Tours by any chance? They definitely have form at that exact location.

@ejstubbs - No, I think I'd skip the politely email stage with them.

In my experience, I would guess either Borders Buses or Stagecoach. BB are known for tailgating; SC for failure of observations.

Hmmm. This should also be part of a 'not thinking things through' thread. They have banned right turns out of Turnhouse Road where it meets the Maybury Rd at the lights at Maybury. This now results in people pulling a U-turn to get to the Glasgow Rd. Unfortunately this takes them through the pedestrian/cycle crossing which is on green. Crap driving, but all rather predictable.

Any idea why they have banned that turn? With Craig's road also shut it leaves drivers the options of going the back road to Cammo, up the hill and round the roundabout or rat running through North Gyle.

I've just been sent the answer to my own question. Apparently it's due to the small number of cars which can turn right per phase of the lights causing Turnhouse Road to backup. So they have extended the green phase but forced them all to turn left instead.
To fix the timing they need to upgrade the junction controller which has a 4 week lead time.

Are you telling me that nobody realised that building a huge housing development on the Turnhouse Road would put major pressure on a junction which has a very short phase and only allows 6 cars to get through.. Talk about a lack of planning.

The real issue is that they didn't force the developers to complete the Craig's Road junction before the houses. Turnhouse was never meant to be an exit for the houses and the current final plan has a bus gate to stop the new houses using it.
