  1. My old passport had an Eritrean visa in it for an old job. Ended up not being able / having to go, but I was really looking forward to that.

    I remember a friend pointing to one of the kids at school drop-off, who was wearing a Hogwarts Gryffindor scarf, saying: “Look, a Motherwell fan!”

    Yesterday Boyfriend Of Fimm met a couple of people, one of whom has a boyfriend whose first name is Martin. The other person rolled up and said
    "I see Martin has broken his collarbone..."
    Cue much confusion for Boyfriend Of Fimm and girlfriend of Martin until it was clarified that it was Tony Martin who was meant. BOF was also a bit annoyed about the spoiler!

  9. Hehehehehehe! I can only imagine the look of horror then relief on GoM's face!

    Today's stage rolling along nicely for the sprinters. C'mon Cav, you've got to come good at some point!

    Rather disappointing sitting third bottom in the Velogames league, but looking at my team again, definitely more of a mountains set up (he said, hopefully), but reckon there's too much to make up!

    Tony Martin must be gutted not to be racing but he is understood to be on the mend after successful surgery following his fall at the end of stage six.

    Did anyone watch the rest day highlights programme yesterday? Nice piece by Chris Boardman (with appearance from Boris Johnson) on cycling in Utrecht.

    (Having seen that, it is no wonder that "UtrechtCyclist" struggles with cycling here...)

    Yes.

    Boardman is consistently good at 'campaigning'.

    I hope that piece will be on YouTube (or ITV's own site).

    That is the first Grand Tour stage victory of an African-based team (MTN-Qhubeka), and on Mandela Day, too. Kudos to TdF script writers. Meanwhile Froome has extended his GC lead:

    tried napping from 50km-20km to go after my morning ride so that I could watch the last climb and finish. Woke up to the chase group crossing the line. Whoops.

    @gembo

    He's not the best handler nevermind on the downhills, but he clearly took a nudge from TVG on the way into that corner so I don't think it's fair to give him too much of a hard time.

    2015, no one died

    etc.

    Oh, and I don't think my team can even ride for a consolation place. Curse me and my inattention.

    Though everyone know it's only the even years that count.

    @the boy - maybe tejay blocked him slightly thus influencing the line he took? Maybe. But no one else was going that fast. Wrong line wrong speed barguil?

    On the plus side geraint seems OK?

    @gembo.

    Contact between them. Barguil passing TJ, TJ moves out and there is contact.

    Barguil said after race that he lost control of his brakes for a second or two. Looks plausible. racing incident. One of those things.

    Posted 10 years ago #
  26. Though Barguil does apparently have a bit of a reckless reputation (granted doesn't prove this was) and a couple of corners later overcooked it again. I reckon he's covering his back a bit - might have been contact with TJvG, but enough to lose control of your brakes? Not convinced.

    What's is certain, of course, is that it wouldn't have received quite the same amount of attention on the telly if it hadn't been a Brit who was hit.... ;)

    Geraint Thomas must be made entirely of rubber. I winced every time they replayed that shot of his head bouncing off the lamp post... that can't be good for anyone. I hope he gets his sunglasses back.

    @the boy any contact did not make him go too fast. Everyone else slowing on the corner but warren speeding up.

    Geraint not happy. But when asked his name and date of birth he said Chris Froome.
